PERSONALITY
The best words to describe Arthur are efficient, organized, stable, self-assured, and loyal. In the world of Inception and in the dreamshare work, all of these make him an extremely effective point man. Essentially, he's in charge of making sure there are no loose ends, that the research is done, the timeline is aligned, and that everyone gets paid. He works hard, keeps everything nice and tidy. This extends past just the way he works; he's almost always seen wearing a suit, carefully tailored and pressed. There's no awkwardness about the way he wears his suits either, he's extremely comfortable in them.

Arthur's stability and reliability carries over into the dreamspace. When the team is immediately met with hostile projections in the first part of the job, he takes it in stride to make sure they can still get to their destination, even while weaving through traffic and getting shot at. The second level of Fischer's inception is held up by Arthur–he was specifically picked to build the second level because, as Cobb mentions, his dreams are always completely stable. They never end up collapsing because he's distracted or otherwise.

He's a creative problem-solver, as someone who understands the mechanics and tricks of dreamsharing to a deep degree. This allows him to use paradoxical architecture to avoid projections or to perform a "kick" to the team while there's no gravity on his level.

While a mostly analytical person, Arthur does have a few quirks: his loyalty to Cobb in particular means he's more likely to take shit from him that he wouldn't from anyone else. He's also in dreamshare because he likes the thrill, not just because it makes (presumably) a lot of money. Lastly, he comes across as very severe and serious, but he has a remarkably playful side and an understated but quirky sense of humor.

Ecstatically toeing the line of "twink" and "twunk". He's got a mean right hook though and can probably kick your face in.


Always put together and well-groomed, Arthur wears suits that flatter his compact and wiry build; slim-cut trousers, thinner notch lapels, typically with English double vents. In addition to highlighting his sleek look, his suits also serve to make him appear a bit taller, as he's exactly average height at 5' 9". Unless a situation calls for something like a black tie, he's mostly seen in earth tones: taupe, light grey, tan, brown, clay red, muted blues. Despite his character assassination by Eames, Arthur is a remarkably creative person, something he shows in his wardrobe. He keeps his hair slicked back, parted to one side, and he's always clean-shaven.

For all of his outer severity, he's got a practical and almost cheeky swagger underneath it all. His shoes, for example, are actually ankle-high boots with an oxford brogueing. Sturdy and supportive, especially for someone who's on the move a lot. When doing work just around the team, he loses some of his stiff formality, forgoing a tie, a vest, or both, and frequently rolling his sleeves up to his elbows. His gait, when in this more relaxed mode, is unrushed but confident.

Arthur carries a faint smell of ozone and motor oil with him. If one listens closely, it almost sounds like there's a low-level whirring of gears under his vocalizations.

Organized to the point of terrifying. Clear headed, rational, hard to distract. Arthur keeps his eyes on the prize and he's difficult to veer off course. He'll pick an idea apart from every angle and help reconstruct it at the same time. Easy to annoy but not easily pissed off. Deals well with extremely stressful situations. Has a very sharp and long memory.

Tethers will get a lot of visceral imagery and quick connection to specific topics, especially if he's had any experience in them. It can be noted that he's a lot squishier under the cool armor than one would expect.
